Komodo private charter vs open trip cost per person: on Raffles Cruise, three days on the whole boat is IDR 10,420,000 (≈ USD 639) a guest at 12, below the IDR 11,000,000 (≈ USD 675) Malacca II seat. It is never below a Java or Borneo seat, even at 14 guests.
The crossover, head count by head count
Start from the open-trip seats on the 2026 card: Java IDR 8,750,000 (≈ USD 537), Borneo IDR 9,000,000 (≈ USD 552), Malacca II IDR 11,000,000 (≈ USD 675), Malacca I IDR 12,000,000 (≈ USD 736). Then set each against the whole boat divided by your head count.
At 10 guests the boat is IDR 12,500,000 (≈ USD 767) each, above every seat. At 11 it is IDR 11,360,000 (≈ USD 697), below the Malacca I seat. At 12 it is IDR 10,420,000 (≈ USD 639), under Malacca II as well.
At 14 guests, with the two extra beds, it is IDR 9,710,000 (≈ USD 596) each. That is still above a Borneo seat and a Java seat; the 14-guest figure is as close as the boat comes to Borneo, and it never crosses. For two guests alone the boat is IDR 57,500,000 (≈ USD 3,528) each, the far end of the table.

What a seat shares; what the entire boat keeps for you
A seat shares the deck, the dining room, the lounge and the route with the other cabins. The open trip fixes the date, Monday or Friday, and fixes the length at three days. The local guide comes with the seat.
Charter the whole boat and all of that stays with your party. You choose the date and the length: the full day, 2 days, 3 days or 4 days. Up to 12 sleep in the cabins, and two extra beds take the boat to 14.
There is a lounge area with a karaoke set, and there is mini golf. A seat has the same use of them as a charter, shared with the other cabins. Only the whole boat lets you set the volume yourselves.

Fare only: the guide and the documentation
Every figure on this page is the fare. It leaves out the park tickets in both cases, and it treats the guide differently. On the open trip the seat carries the local guide plus photo and video documentation, which we confirm in writing ahead of payment.
On a charter they do not. Either can be added on request, quoted apart, and we give no figure for it. So the fair comparison adds our written quote for them to the charter figure.
That quote depends on the days and the party, which is why it cannot sit in a table. Ask for it in the same message as the price, and both figures reach you together.
Two cards, one question: does 2027 move the crossover
On the 2027 card the boat is IDR 125,000,000 (≈ USD 7,669) for any party from 1 to 12 guests, from March to May and from October to December. Divide it by your head count to see each share. We give no 2027 per-person figure, because the card has none.
Seats move too. From March to May and October to December, seats start from the cabin prices in the table. Both sides rise in June to September 2027, the boat on its summer card and the seats on theirs, and we send each figure on WhatsApp.
So the crossover for a summer date is not a number we can give in advance. Ask for the boat and the seats for your week, and compare the two written answers.
Choosing by party shape
Two guests who want company on deck and a lower figure take a seat. Four friends take two cabins, and seats stay the lower figure. Six or eight guests stay with seats too, unless a deck to yourselves is the point.
From 11 guests the boat starts to win on the price per guest, and at 12 it beats both Malacca cabins. A family of 12, a company, a wedding party or a group of friends will find the boat the better figure and the quieter deck.
For 11 or more, price the boat first. For fewer, price the seats first. A mixed party of ten, say, with two couples who want a balcony, is the one case where both answers deserve a written quote, and we send both.

Is it cheaper to charter a whole boat or join an open trip?
Up to 10 guests, seats cost less per person. From 11 guests the boat undercuts the Malacca I seat, and from 12 the Malacca II seat. It never falls below a Borneo or a Java seat. The charter buys privacy, and the seat buys the lowest figure.
How many people make a charter cheaper than a seat?
That depends on the seat. At 11 guests the boat costs IDR 11,360,000 (≈ USD 697) each, below the Malacca I seat. At 12 it costs IDR 10,420,000 (≈ USD 639), below Malacca II. Against Borneo and Java, no head count to 14 makes the boat cheaper.
What do I give up by joining an open trip?
You give up the choice of date and length, the empty deck and the control of the routine. The route, the meals and the crew are the same. In return the local guide is in the seat, and you pay for your cabin only.
Do charter prices rise in peak season?
On the 2026 card, no: one price applies all year, by party size. On the 2027 card, June to September costs more for the 2-day, 3-day and 4-day routes, while the full day stays level. We send that figure on WhatsApp.
Can I add extra guests to a private charter?
Yes, up to 14. The 13th and 14th guests take the two extra beds at IDR 5,500,000 (≈ USD 337) each on three days. Which cabins take them we confirm in writing before you pay.
