Travelling alone: what a seat is, and what it is not

A solo non-diver on a Komodo liveaboard asks us before booking, because a cabin on Raffles Cruise is sold to two paying guests. Seats start at IDR 8,750,000 (≈ USD 537) per person, two sharing, on the 3D2N open trip. We answer on WhatsApp, and nothing is held until you have it in writing.
The two-guest minimum, explained
A cabin on the open trip is sold to two paying guests. The seat price is per person, so two guests sharing one double bed pay two seats, and the cabin is then full.
One guest alone is the case the rate cards do not answer, and we do not pretend they do. A solo guest asks us, and we reply on WhatsApp with the dates that are open and the cabin that fits.
Nothing here promises that a cabin can be taken by one person at a single seat price. A solo seat is quoted on request, confirmed in writing before you pay. If you pay for both seats of a cabin, the cabin is yours alone, and the figure is IDR 8,750,000 (≈ USD 537) twice for Java on the 2026 card.
Held for you: what we can confirm on WhatsApp
Four things are held for you once we agree them in writing: the date, the cabin, the number of seats and the price card that applies. Until then, none of them is held.
The calendar below shows the open dates. We open the date you want, check which cabins still have a free berth, and send the answer the same day we read your message.
Payment comes after that message, not before it. The deposit is 50 per cent. Pay the balance 30 days before departure; the booking page sets out both figures. Should the date move before you pay, the price card moves with it, and the same message tells you. A seat held on WhatsApp is held for you by name.
Open-trip departures are on Mondays and Fridays, and 2027 adds some Thursdays from June to September. Your exact date and your seat are confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay.

2027 dates are open to book now. The 2027 rate cards are published: the private charter card applies to sailings from 1 January 2027, with a higher tier from June to September and January and February on request, and the open-trip cabin prices follow the season. Sailings up to 31 December 2026 use the 2026 card.

Sharing the deck with the other cabins
The open trip is a shared boat. The deck, the dining room and the stops are shared by the cabins that sail that day, and the local guide leads the party in the water and on the walks.
At the gangway, shoes come off and your cabin is allocated before lunch. You eat when the others eat, in the saloon or on the foredeck, depending on the weather and the captain.
Only the two Malacca cabins have a balcony. A solo guest in a Borneo or Java cabin has a window and the deck. For a first night aboard, a guest who is not a strong swimmer wears a life jacket in the water, as every guest does who asks for one, and the crew decides when and where the party goes in.
The other answer: the boat entire, with people you choose
Some solo guests find the answer in a party of their own. A friend, a sister or a colleague joins, and the two of you book a cabin as a pair.
A larger group is the other way. On the 2026 card, 3 days on the whole boat for 6 guests is IDR 120,000,000 (≈ USD 7,362), which is IDR 20,000,000 (≈ USD 1,227) each. On request we quote the guide and the documentation apart; park tickets are never part of any fare.
Cabins on a charter are yours to allocate. The open trip allocates them for you. Either way, the cabin plan reaches you in writing before the deposit, so you know who sleeps where.

Three things to settle in writing before payment
- Which cabin, and whether you hold one seat or both seats of it.
- The date, with the pickup hour. Pickup is at 09:30 as a planning figure, and the exact hour is confirmed with your seat.
- The price card that applies, 2026 or 2027, and what the seat includes: guide and documentation sit inside the open-trip seat, confirmed in writing before you pay.
That is the whole list. Send us the date, the number of seats and the cabin you prefer, and we answer with the three lines in one message. If a line cannot be confirmed, the message says so plainly. You then decide, with the facts in front of you, whether to pay.

Can I book a cabin alone?
Each cabin goes to two paying guests, so a solo guest asks us first. We reply on WhatsApp with the open dates and the arrangement that fits. Nothing is held until you have it in writing.
Will you pair me with someone?
No pairing with another guest is promised. We tell you which cabins have a free berth on your date, and any arrangement is confirmed in writing before you pay.
Do I pay extra for travelling alone?
A solo seat is quoted on request. Ask us for your date, and the figure comes back in writing, ahead of any payment.
Is it safe to travel alone?
The boat sails with its crew of 8, and life jackets are aboard for any guest who wants one. In the water, the crew decides when and where the party goes in, and on an open trip the guide goes in with the party; on a private charter a guide is on request.
